Dam Decision

I think that if they decide to take down all the dams in rivers it can be a good thing or a bad thing. There are both positives and negatives in taking down dams. A good thing is that there would be many more fish in the rivers because a lot of them die going through the dams. Wild salmon going through rivers would go up because 92% of salmon going back to the ocean die when they go through the dams. There would be more research in river ecosystems because there would be more fish because they wouldn’t be dying from the dams.

Some bad things about taking dams down now is that the rivers are used to having them there so they have adapted to having that many fish in it. There would be a loss of jobs where they would be taking down the dams because there would be people that work at them. So they would be losing money and work. If they take down dams there could be a lot of flooding in the areas where the dams are.

They make electricity with the dams and if they went down they would not be able to do that anymore and it could mean that they would lose money.

Aerial Wolf Hunting

Aerial wolf hunting in Alaska is not a good thing. They just kill them for nothing. It isn't really fair when they chase them down in a plane and shoot them ten times to kill it. I don't think it's a viable option to control predators.

If it continues, then there will be more moose, deer, and caribou because those are the animals that wolves hunt the most in Alaska. They are hunting wolves just so there would be more of the other species. But if they keep killing the wolves, then they could all die off in Alaska.

Some people might be scared of wolves and don't go to recreational areas. So they could be for aerial wolf hunting. There would be less wolf attacks so they would be happy.

But if they keep killing them, it wouldn't be good for scientists. There would be less wolves and it would be harder to study them. And if they all died off they would not be able to study them at all.
